I've received a .png file (see historical .png) where I see a smooth image in the preview but once the file is opened in Photoshop you get a white space - there's nothing to see - even when I measure the values in Photoshop. When I added a new dark layer underneath the png layer then you see the image.
I'm curious to know how it was made.

I've reseived the png file as it is on the attachement so no layers there.
The layer I've added is in Photoshop so I could see what's on the png.
I suppose too that the png has been made with with some blend mode (multiply?) but the thing I find so strange is that you don't see or mesure any gray value in Photoshop once the png file is added on a layer and only by adding a second layer underneath you get a result....

that's what so strange about it. I receive this from a web theme. You have to open this in photoshop, put a new layer under the png layer, fill it with a dark color and now you see the (png) picture !

But when you double click at the png file then you see the picture as previewfile.

I've received several examples like thisone. They should be used as banners, so the pictures are really very smooth - that's the target.

I'll put the screenfile within.

The image is there, it's just difficult to see. Increase the brightness and you'll see it.
