Welcome to the forums Martin. I don't think that you can save it as a PDF within Photoshop, the dimensions are too large I believe you will have to save it as a .psb extension, this is the large document format.
Why is your artwork so large, what does it contain?
Having said all that, your printer should be able to open the .psb within Acrobat so it shouldn't be such a big deal, Adobe products have tight integration. Call him and ask if in doubt, he should be happy to help.
