I am looking to produce digital products for Amazon's Kindle. I have a free graphics programme (GIMP) which i don't like (although I'm pretty novicey so it may be me). What does Photoshop add that justifies its price and would it be worth it for inserting photographs into a Kindle product (with some image manipulation).

You don't need Photoshop to do what you want to do, but it is the industry standard, I think that you could manage with GIMP or even Paint Shop Pro. If you can justify the price then buy Photoshop, if you can't.....

You can download Photoshop on trial for a month at this link if you are thinking of making the switch PS Trial

I agree with thehermit. The problem is not that such as Paint Shop Pro won't do a great job for you. I started with Paint Shop many years ago, upgraded with every opportunity, was VERY much at home with it, and very happy. But in recent years, as the net became all-knowing, more and more opportunities to, in some way, utilize templates or whatever from PhotoShop, became available. Some of them, perhaps most, can, with a little effort, be converted, but always giving a slight "I'm out of step" feeling. Now I'm hunting on a new horizon for the tricks and efficiencies I have learned over the years. If you are starting out, GIMP may do for you to get the fever, but when you want to get serious, get the big boy, PhotoShop.

Hello,

I am using basic Paint on my hard drive to 'print screen' images that I need (respecting copyrights, of course, etc.,.) to edit, crop and post them on web pages.

How would Photoshop assist me with adding text directly on to my images and other creative things (e.g. rounding out frames, etc.,.)?

Also, how is Photoshop support? Are they responsive and technically helpful?

I am fairly new to this, but learn rather quickly.

Hello,
I have learned the GIMP a little bit and found that it takes a lot of time to master all the phases it offers. I wish there a quick short trick to do just a particular task.

I too do not know much about photoshop, but I am willing to learn if anyone would point out the benefits of having photoshop over other paid programs out there. I know most people said it is the best, but pricy. It should justify it with its price tag.

Please describe the important features and benefits of having photoshop.

Photoshop is a great software for me to edit photos. This encouraged me to buy a software when I edit faces in photos with pimples and it was successfully removed. The price is a little steep but overall I don't think I could live without as it is so versatile and powerful.

Dear all, I agree with all your views and at the same time would like to express my comments towards this discussion.

From my personal experience, I feel that if we just only need to have a photo/image to show someone (for example to send a screen shot to a software support team, or just transmit your scanned photograph, etc.) you could use any free/paid image tools available in the industry or even can use MS PAINT for this.

But if you are into web or graphic design, then the most effective (may be the only available) tool will be Photoshop. If you think about reusing your designs, then Photoshop is the most highly recommended tool for this. Its convenience an power in managing layers/groups, fonts and effects, etc. etc. are of great support to any designer. Once you get used with photoshop, then you will surely discard all other available graphic design tools.

May be I am wrong, but this is completely based on my experience, and I love using Photoshop for my professional designs.
