Welcome to the forum. I'm not totally sure which effect you wish to reproduce, but I'm going to guess it's the displacement map you are after.
The effect in This Tutorial is a little severe, but it gives you the idea.
The rest looks like a whole lot of text with a larger horizontal type mask set to white.
