Hi there! any help would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to turn my hand written signature into a brush so that I can sign my pictures with it...

Using CS3 Photoshop

I've tried following many tutorials and I still can't figure this out. I took a picture of my signature and tried " Edit" - "Define Brush Preset" but it doesn't work. The "Define Brush Preset" is not bold so I can't choose it. I tried having the file on JPG, TIFF and PNG. Didn't work.

I also tried "Select" - "Color Range" - Pick the background - "Inverse" - " Edit" - "Define Brush Preset" - Same story: The "Define Brush Preset" is not bold so I can't choose it. I tried having the file on JPG, TIFF and PNG. Didn't work.

I also tried Scanning the signature instead of taking a picture...tried JPG, TIFF & PNG... didn't work...

The "Define Brush Preset" is not bold so I can't choose it.

What's happening??

Please help!

Thanks :)

Maria

hi,
not quite sure what the issue is...

if your going to scan it... then make sure you write your
signature on high contrast white paper....

and make sure you scan at a good resolution ... to low of resolution
there not going to be enough pixals data to get a good sig scan ..

now make sure at this point your signature
is nice and sharp and signature is black ... edit it if it not...

I generally will crop off large access.... when ready

then do the edit>define brush set ... give it a name and that should be it..

now you will need to save that but otherwise your done

most of the signature tutorials are about the same including this one

Hi Jerry. Thanks for your answer.

I did scanned in high resolution, the signature is sharp and perfect. That's not my issue.

Like I said before, when I open the file and I go to Edit Menu, the "define brush set" option is not available. It's not bold. It doesn't allow me to click on that option. So I'm stuck. It's seems pretty simple...if only I was able to click on "define brush set" ... Any thoughts?

Thanks

Maria

hi,
aww i misunderstood what you wrote the first time... sorry

what the deminsions of the image??????

if your image is over 2500x2500

it will be grayed out... the define brush can't handle anything over that size
so you need to make your image smaller one way or another ie: resize or crop out what not needed, etc

try this, just so you can practice alittle, just create a canvas of 600x600 ,with a white background ..
then take black brush and make a black circle
then go to your edit menu ... i have feeling
you will see "define brush preset" is now avail..
