I’m learning Photoshop CS5 3D features and looking for guidance/steps for the following task:

With 3D set of tools, to create a sphere with shiny surface and apply (paste?) on this spherical surface a photo of human face.

I need to do it in such a way that the human face following the spherical surface will get appropriately distorted by shape of the sphere.

Can someone skilled in Photoshop CS5 3D tools , please, help me with this task?

No video tutorials, please - I need to be able to read the material and follow it.
Thank you in advance!

Molly

Hi Molly,

1. Open up the image of your face
2. Select from the menu: Window > 3D
3. It should open up a window that has 'create new 3D object'
4. Choose the '3D shape from preset' option
5. Select 'Sphere' from the drop down tab directly below this option and press create
6. If the face is to large on the sphere you can edit the size

6a. Your sphere layer in the layers tab should have 'textures' listed
6b. What your face layer was originally called (usually layer0 or background etc) will be in the sublayer of 'textures'
6c. If you hold your mouse still over this sublayer a picture of the original face image will appear
6d. Double click this sublayer and it will open up a new window where the original face can be edited/transformed to suit your requirements
6e. Any changes made are automatically applied back to the sphere

7. In the 3D window you opened to create the sphere originally is a list similar to the layers tab
8. Select sphere material from this list
9. Options will appear such as 'gloss' 'shine' 'environment' and 'reflection'
10. Raise gloss and shine to make the sphere appear shiny
11. Add a image to the environment and raise reflection to make it appear as if it is reflecting what is in the space around it.

Hope that gets you where you want to be.

Welcome aboard, Molly. Nice detail in that tutorial, Steve. I appreciate it.
