Hi

I developed this app

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/haircut-helper/id473538845?mt=8

I don't know how to correctly cut out hair from an image.

My transparent pngs looks really amateur.

I want something like this

http://www.dailymakeover.com/virtual-makeover/earrings

where the haircut seems to have an alpha channel...

How is that possible?

Regards
Mirza

hi,
first.. not sure what your expecting... alpha channels can be created when you creat mask or saved selection or duplicating a channel!! ...

i think what your wanting is the hair on a transparent background... and then you want to save in either gif or png or tif... those 3 format will retain the transparency....

so the main issue just extracting the hair to it own layer...

now i am assuming that your using photoshop but don't know what version and that can help on what meathod and tools to use since the versions do not all have the same tools... what meathod did you use to make the selection?

there many different ways to select the hair and place it on it own background...

a couple of ways..
one meathod is use the extracting tool ....

another meathod is use a form of channel masking
http://www.planetphotoshop.com/select-hair-by-using-channels.html

now this tutorial what important isn't so much how there selecting but the use of the refine tool!!! the eample you gave looks like after doing the initial selection follow it up with the refine edge tool...
