I am a total Photoshop newbie and I can't seem to find the answer to this online, even though I have done it before I cannot for the life of me remember how!

I have a picture of my daughter, which I take monthly and then add text to whatever she is wearing. It is however old in months she is and then the word "months" underneath of it. Sometimes her arm gets in the way of where the word "months" goes and I was wondering how to someone paint over the text a little bit so that it looks like her arm is over the text, if that makes sense.

Any helpers?

hi,
first of all it always helps to provide a image.. because many time we try different techniques to see which give the best results... plus...smiling... you ll get more replies....

i don't want to say it simple ... without seeing the image.. smiling...

however... very possibly using the clone tool...
my basic workflow
1. make a dup of the background layer- something i always do..
2. then add a blank layer above that... i find this is nice non distructive meathod, all the painting occurrs here...
3. click the clone tool
4. then above where it says sample, click the "currrent and bleow" setting...
what that will do is your sample be of the layer area below the blank layer but you be painting on the blank area.... this make it a lot easier to take care of mistakes withough starting over...

5.. at this point select sample area of another part of the arm and paint/clone over the text you want to hide...

there always other ways to do things but offhand that myfirst thoughts on doing it....

hi,
ok i think i understand now the issue....
actually using the eraser meathod not a bad idea... but i will address a couple ofther ways which you may or may not like better but remember alot of times it all depends on the image.... smiling..... what works best...

now the meathod i discribe earlier can be used

however another way,,,
dup original layer..

make a good selection of the hand and arm and do copy and paste of it.

now make your text layer and position the text the way you want...

now move that text layer between the dup image and the hand and arm layer

and that it.... i have attached a image that shows my work flow...

now a varation of the copy and paste of the hand and arm would be
make another dup layer but make your selection and and apply a layer mask
