Here's my opinion
Most graphic designers don't need a splash page.
They should however have a clean frontpage with some eye candy if you want to stand out.
If your targeting the budget, mass produced, design market you can set it up more like a webshop and don't need wow people as much.
Splash page can really work well for 3D artists or individuals/companies with something really good to show off.
They can also be used to set the mood, enhance mystery etc.
Who wants to waste a click if your visiting a site regularly, so unique visitors has a lot of pull on which way to go.
With html 5 splash type introductions to pages might become more common.
eg. windows type start menus, fancy GUI etc
Lastly...
I'm a big fan of athletic site design, so a splash page is never going to bother me as much as an ugly website would. |
