I need to create a graphic for the Web - a header with the company logo. It will consist of type, a gradient background, some geometric shapes, and possibly a photo.
I know I could do it all in Photoshop but I'm wondering if the quality will be better if I do some of it in Illustrator and then import that part into Photoshop?
The catch is I've never used Illustrator so I'm not sure if there will be a learning curve (and I don't catch on very fast).
I could alternatively use Inkscape if that would be any advantage (never used that either).
So, I've got Photoshop, Illustrator, and Inkscape - which would be the best to use given my circumstances? |

Hi Myrrh,
I'd recommend sticking with Photoshop. Text and shapes are vector based, so quality shouldn't be a problem.
Illustrator would be the best option if your looking to make a living out of it, but in my experience, Illustrator has a fairly steep learning curve. For me, much steeper than Photoshop had.

When creating files from scratch, which DPI should I use?
And for Web use the final should be 72DPI? |

Hi there,
Sorry for my slow reply.
When using Photoshop, the options will be in PPI.
Personally I go with 300 PPI when starting fresh.
PPI/DPI is meaningless when working on the web. It's all about the dimensions of the image.

Photoshop is a common software you need. If you plan on using them on the web only, 72dpi is fairly enough. |

Photoshop is really the appropriate tool to use here. Since you have to make a graphic for the web, just focus on Photoshop for now because, in the first place, you are not yet familiar with Illustrator. Just experiment later and decide. Now, since you are creating that for web use, you can have 72 or 96 dpi. |
