I was given a task by an employer to create an Icon for his software that would look good at a high resolution and low resolution however the one I created wasn't recognizable at a low resolution. Another problem was that I hadn't used the space efficiently enough. Any feedback or help would be much appreciated.

There's way too much detail put in in a higher res version, putting in detail is alright, but to allow it to persist when scaling down it really needs to be high contrast (no too close shades of colour or grey in this case).

It might be used more efficiently at a 45 degrees angle. I must say though, it is uncommon - and therefore often feels 'off' - when a dynamic icon doesn't flow either from the bottom or top (as in left in your logo.
