				| Is there a way to generate a gradient using an image? See example attached.
Or do I just have to add all the points and sample the image. Making sure all the points are in the correct position!!

				| I am not aware of any way to make a gradient map from an image.
Only think I could think of that would come close is converting the strip to a vector and then loading it in to Photoshop as needed.  Applying Gaussian Blur to it after rasterization etc.

				| I'm not really sure it's what you were after but you could do a pixel drag. Duplicate layer. Create a single column marquee selection (vertical) and press Ctrl+T to transform and then just drag the control handle.
