This banner has light brown transparent layer over the background & a few other layers. I'm trying to figure out how to get the box effect on the left side showing the dogs head.
Any ideas?

1 Create an adjustment layer. Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue/Saturation. Close the box by clicking OKAY
2 go to Layers panel and click onto the little white box on the Hue/.. layer. Using the Square marquee draw a box around the dogs head. Holding downn the the Shift and Ctrl keys hit the i button on the keyboard. This will invert the selection. Make sure the background colour is black and hit the the backspace. This should fill the Adjustment layer with black (mask) keeping a liitle white square.
Do not deselect the marching ants marquee.
3 Double click the funny looking box alongside of the mask box and the Hue/Saturation dialogue box will open. Move the Saturation slider as far as it will go to the left. Click Okay. Flatten the image if you wish.
4 Now click onto the background layer.
Then Edit>Stroke. Use a stroke suitable for your image. Click Okay. That's it.

you could just select the area with the marquee tool then edit >copy.
then while the area is still selected edit>paste into.
image>Desaturate and then just apply your stroke around the edge |
