This is a tutorial for Photoshop 6.0.1. I cannot guarantee it's all the same in previous or later versions. Anyway, this is something that perhaps the experts know about but I am sure there are many people who do not know about this.

The following image is a zoomed in part of one of my old pieces I had stored somewhere. Each red square is 3x3 pixels in the original image (800x400 pixels).

Say we want to enlarge this image 5 times, thus the original becoming 4000x2000 pixels. Normally you would use the image Size dialog box. The following image shows the result at actual pixels after enlarging.

Eew, that's not really what we were hoping for. Is there an easy way to fix this instead of remaking your image? Of course! Check the image Size dialog box again.

The dropdown menu shows three different types of resampling modes. Bicubic is your default resampling mode. The trick to making the enlarged image look the same (in that respective part) as the original by choosing nearest neighbor as your resampling mode.

I don't often use these things and the result depends on the original but I have noticed it helped a lot of people since some of their biggest complaints about Photoshop was that it blurs an image when enlarging. If you're not satisfied when increasing or decreasing the size of your image you can always play with these resampling modes. :)

While I can only care about the result I found out that it's quite an interesting process.
