Well almost anyway!
The old, (un)reliable Extract filter is not part of Photoshop CS4, and Adobe isn't planning on bringing it back! Instead, Extract will be replaced by sometyhing altogether more powerful in future releases of the software (working alongside Refine Edge so I hear).
Luckily for anybody who's a fan of the Extract feature, Adobe are planning to make it available, for the time being, completely free of charge on the Adobe website. Also, if you have previous versions of Photoshop, you can copy and paste it from an old version into the filters folder of the new version and things should work out perfectly!
So do we have any extract users here who'll be sad to see it go? I've never used it all that much but it does come in handy sometimes, usually through habit though!

Nah, I don't think I've ever used it. Early on, someone showed me how to use the pen tool for selecting and extracting, and that's been my main tool for extracting anything exacting except stuff like hair. Simple stuff like solid backgrounds, etc., I use the magic wand, occasionally other tools. More complex stuff (e.g. hair) calls for Dr. Brown's channels techniques. Just never found Extract that effective or attractive as a tool. Too much for the simple stuff, not enough for the tough stuff... |

I like it but understand CS4 doesn't have it....
Just takes alot of practice to get it right. I am looking
for a Wacom tablet, I am sure it would make the job
easier. |

Yes that's right, it's been removed from CS4. I understand they're trying to build something better using Refine Edge.
Yes, if you're steady with your hands a wacom tablet would help I'm sure!
