I have a picture of two people. The effect I want to create is if you grabbed the top of the photo with both hands and started pulling it apart, with it ripping down the middle and the top pieces pulled apart, but still connected at the bottom.

Is there a plugin capable of doing this or can someone explain to me how to do this?

Thanks

You would almost need to make each half on separate layers. Then distort the top of each outwards... and then merge layers. Then create a mask and use a rough/grungy brush along the edges...

maybe? I'll try writing up a tutorial for this...

Try searching Adobe site for Photoshop "ripping" action, I know of one and it could be adapted for your use with a little customisation.

www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1040204

Try starting with this.
