I have been having this issue for a while and am still perplexed. I am vignetting a layer....copy layer-multiply-marquee selection-delete and flatten. The issue is the strange "lines" or markings on the sides. I am uploading a sample that has been lightened excessively to show the lines..any help would be great. The only thing I can think of is to uninstall and reinstall PS...

This is happening because you are using multiply on you copied layer

try this:

1: convert the background to an editable layer.

2: select the marquee tool & drag just inside of you image.

3: add a layer mask.

4: click on the layer mask in the layers palette.

5: next filter - blur - gaussian blur & adjust the radius as necessary
