Hello everyone,

I am in the process of rebuilding my site and currently stuck in determining the method to blend the outer parts of a picture black, to match a black background, as seen on the image attached. So to make a nice transition. First off is there a term for this? I've spent hours looking at blending and masking tutorials but they cover blending two images or other things. The closest I got was using layer masking and the gradient tool but I couldn't seem to make the gradient darker/denser, not used to these tools. If I knew the term, tool or effect for this I could find more relevant tutorials. I'm looking to apply this effect to the motorcycle and aircraft picture on this page I started experimenting with at http://www.worldtrip.ca/index.php How does one go about this?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

=) thats easy. Its called a Vignette. You can achieve this in a lot of diffrent ways.

One way would to use the circle marquee tool with a high feather value, 32 should be good. and simply press the backspace key on the area you would like to apply the effect to.

So if you have a layer with black on top of the floor and you want that same effect. Draw a circle with the circle marquee tool with 32px feather and press delete / backspace and tadaaa all done.

You can also do the same thing with a layer mask but instead of deleteing you just add black or white depending on how you want it to look.

I hope this helped.

Good luck!
