Hi,

white background is printed as very light pink. Problem is not with the printer as it was printed in a print shop. The screen colour seems white but it may be pink, its hard to tell because it is such a pale shade. Checked that the white is ffffff so its not that there is a trace of another colour. What to do?
Cheers,
Meg

If you have a psd file and the bg is on a separate layer I would start by deleting that layer and creating a new one. Check to make sure that it hasnt got an overlay on the layer also. Other than that I cant really think of anything else simple to try.

White should not be present in the printing process as this would actually be an absence of ink. I would set the highlights and shadows in the image to be 5-10% below their actual values.

I don't know what colour space you created the file in or your designated output, but it sounds like a colour management issue between devices. With that in mind, here's some links on colour management:

Free software to help calibrate your monitor:

There are loads of sites and information out there on 'the pink tinge' problem, so Google should be your best friend. My best guess is that you need to read up on Photoshop Colour Spaces/Profiles and your output profile. Unless your home printer is RGB, don't designate CMYK colour profiles etc....

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Thanks for your answers niftyned and thehermit.

niftyned - I tried that, didn't work.

thehermit - I created the file as cymk/16 in photoshop and then saved it as pdf and gave it to the local printer to print. The white is just a background for a photo I bought.

Sorry to ask such a basic question - but how do you set the highlights and shadows in the image to be 5-10% below their actual values? I am such a beginner.

And thanks for the links. I've been googling 'pink tint' today, and was ready to kill myself. I read the first link you sent and it was easy enough so thanks.
