				Hi,

My first post and I need help

My photoshop experience is that of a very low beginner. I am a teacher and today we were told we had to submit photos in to the school BUT with certain specs.

"Background color should be light blue with a specific shade of PMS 227 using photoshop.

File size shouldn't exceed 250KB. Photo must be 300DPI."

Now, I already have a photo on my computer so I opened it in PS, was able to find the Pantone palette but couldn't find just a PMS 227..the color comes as C/U/M ( coat/un/mat..) I used the C version and I get some shade of red or purple..I did some further reading and found that monitor color is different from printing.

Now what I need help with is this..When they said PMS 227 and no suffixes, can I use C or do I have to use something else?

Most importantly is I need some sort of URL or lesson that shows me how I can change the background of my photo and replace it with this PMS.

I used brushes and erased around the pic but from a zooming distance, it looks like the person who tried to edit it is blind.

I am sure there is an easier way to do this background replacement ...hope you guys can help me out. Thanks a lot.

One last thing..I heard if my image wasn't already 300DPI and I tried to change it, it wouldn't be right...is that correct? |

				Welcome to the forum.

As you surmise PMS 227 is a pretty vivid purple colour not light blue.

PMS Chart.

Don't worry about the monitor thing, it does makes a difference but not in any way that you would discern. Obviously monitors display RGB vs the CMYK gamut.

Here's a general masking tutorial

To answer your other Q, you can downsize from 300 but not upscale to 300. Also I think you mean PPI not DPI (Pixel Per Inch). _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

As I can see from the specs it's actually PMS (I hope that doesn't mean Pre/Post Menstrual Stress) 277 which is indeed a light blue color. Photoshop refers to it as PPI (Pixels Per Inch) which translates to your printer as DPI (Dots Per Inch).

Regarding your question about changing the background color I think it would be best if you could post the picture itself so we know exactly what you're talking about. |

I tried the youtube vdo but could never get the results I wanted. Here is the pic.

I have a couple of problems. One, when I scan it, to which format do I save it?

Two, when finished with pic in Photoshop, to which format do I save it to keep the PSM color?

I'll try to send the original and the lame edited one I did.

My bad it's 277 not 227. I need to be able to replace the background flawlessly and need to know in which format to save it after I am done. |
