Does anyone know how to make the text hug an object. Like making it go around a circle or around a curve. I know how to do it in Illustrator, but not photoshop. _________________ Genius is eternal patience.

Hey Michelangleo,
The text needs to follow a path, so first create the path (if it's a standard shape you want it to follow then use one of the standard shape tools), once you've got the path ready, select the text tool and hover over the path, the cursor should attach to the path leaving you free to create text that follows the path outline.
Hope that helps _________________ Matt

Hey Matt,
Thanks for the help. I tried what you said and it doesn't seem to work. I'm using Photoshop 7 (not sure if that has anything to do with it). Let me tell you exactly what I'm doing, perhaps I'm missing a step.
I hit the pen tool, then used the circle shape (and I tried making a shape with the pen tool too). Then I would select the text tool and go over the new vector image...the pen tool cursor doesn't change or allow it to follow the paths. It just sets up the text to go straight across like it normally does.
Did I miss something?
Thank you. _________________ Genius is eternal patience.

Hey Michelangleo,
A couple of things to note that may help-
Makesur you are using the elliptical shape tool and not the elliptical marquee tool.
Before drawing the shape you have 3 options at the top of the image window (in the options bar). They are to create a shape layer, create a path and fill outline with pixels. You need to make sure you have things set to path.
Now move the text tool above the path and you see a small curved line appear, now click and start typing your text.
Let me know if you have any other issues with this and I'll create a few custom screenshots.
Good luck _________________ Matt

Another thing you might notice when wrapping text around an object is that the tops of the letters may occasionally touch when going into a bend, or they may seem to far apart going around a bend.
This can be fixed with Kerning, simply place your cursor in the offending area, hold the option (or alt if you're on a windows machine) key, and press left or right.
This is how you can adjust the space between letters. Just something I wish I would have known before I went wrapping text around things... |
