|
|
Does anyone know if color hot-tracking is possible in photoshop? I'm designing icons two sets of icons, one is a regular icon and the other is the icon when focused on. Both the unfocus and focus use a specific png. I would like to be able to create this effect for the focus icon. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would do this? I tried selecting with the circle tool on the bottom portion of the icon and using gradients, but this didn't work out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Oh, and if you don't know what color hot tracking is, check out this video...

I would be glad to help! If you send me the two images you're working with I can do it for you. Or, if you want me to work up a tutorial on how this is done I can do that but it will take longer.
It's up to you.

Hey, thanks for the help! I am actually creating about 30 icons so If you could maybe do a quick tutorial, that would be fantastic. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I have attached an example image of what I would like to use it on.

Ok, I can get to work on that for you. What do you want the "focused" icon to look like? Also, will these be on a black background or white? (or something else?)

Hello, thank you for getting back to me. The focused icon will look the same as the one I uploaded (as an example) the only difference when focused on will be that it will have the color-hot-track on it.

Wait...are you talking about a simple mouse-over effect? Or the complete hot-tracking effect (as shown in the video)?
The Mouse over effect is easy to do with just 2 images (a before and after).
The actual Hot-tracking effect (light source follows mouse cursor while over the icon) is a completely different animal.

I don't see how it would be possible for it to be the animated hot tracking effect, I am just looking for two images, a before and after like you have mentioned. I guess I need a tutorial in glow, graidents, etc to create that effect. Thank you for your help
EDIT: I'd prefer a transparent background as I will be having an underlay for both the before and after. I guess I could just remove any background layer you'd use anyways.
So all in all, the first image will be the unfocused image. The second image will be the focused image with the color hot tracking centered behind the icon. Basically, a white glow on the middle bottom portion and the color hot track on top of the white glow extending behind the icon much like in the video. I have uploaded two screenshots of what firefox looks like with color hot tracking.
