|
|
Hello, I don't really know what to call this or how to address this, but I'll try my best.
Basically, I want to be able to create a glass effect on a square icon tile. I want the glass to be translucent so that the image behind the square icon tile is blurry (hence the translucency). I know how to create effect if I want it over some user-defined background layer, but what I am trying to do is a bit different. I need to import a PNG file into a theme program, and it uses this glass tile. I want the glass tile to have the translucent effect, but the problem is, I can only get the effect to work if I create a layer over a user-defined background layer. What I want is to have the translucent effect over whichever background is used in my theme program. I am not sure if this is possible to do with a PNG file, or even possible at all. If anyone could shed some knowledge on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! |

On the "Background" layer (the one you always start out with in every Photoshop document)
Click and drag the little lock icon from that layer to the trash can icon at the bottom of the layers pallet.
This will "unlock" the background layer allowing you to delete the contents (making it transparent) or apply layer styles.
Hope this helps! If not, I'll try again. _________________ "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

Thank you for your response. That isn't exactly what I am trying to do unfortunately. What I would like to do is create a file that will in essence be a frosted glass effect layer. For instance, I use a program that uses png files to create themes for mobile devices. The icons that are displayed on the device have little square underlays beneath them so that they stand out given a different background behind it. What I would like to do is create a glass file so that whichever background behind the icons is selected, the small underlays will become translucent according to the color of the background used. If I were to change the background to green, the frosted glass tile underlays would be a glass colored green. If I were to change the background to blue, the frosted glass tile underlays would then be a transparent blue. Now I know I can create a white tile and then set its transparency to a really low value, i.e. alpha = 50, but this isn't what I want to do. I want the icon to simply be a frosted glass filter/layer. I hope you can understand what I am saying. Thank you! |

I'm sorry. I think it's too early in the morning for me to think straight. Could you find an example of what you want somewhere so I can actually see it? _________________ "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
