Im newbie with photoshop and i need help with adjusting resolution.

I have picture which is Width: 2000 and Height: 2958 and i need it to change to 1680x1050 in order to use it as a background on my pc.
The thing is when i change the width then the height changes automatically and vice-versa. And i have no control over the end result.

So how can i change Width and Height independently to exactly what i want ? Is this even possiable ? Im using cs4 on windows.

Im sure this has been asked before so my apologies but i need help. .:)

Image->Image Size and untick Constrain Proportions at the bottom of the dialogue box. Type in the dimensions and click on OK.

I normally create a new image and size it at 1680 x 1050, then move the photo over to the new image. That way you can then free transform and reposition /resize the photo before cropping.
Hope this helps.
