System camera or SLR ?

Hello,

I want to buy a new camera, as my is already 8 years old and I think out of technology nowadays.

Can someone explain me the difference between a system camera and SLR ? And if possible in a human way as in the internet I found only professional explanations which I really do not understand as I am not a photo expert.
- The price range is actually similar.

PS: I have to tell you that 8 years ago, it was much easier to buy a camera, now the technology is so far, that it confused the consumer what to buy :-)

A system camera is a camera with interchangeable components.

Technically an SLR is a system camera however it's a term more often used to describe mirrorless or micro four thirds cameras.

The main difference between between the two is a size vs features relationship.

DSLR are larger cameras with more features.
Mirrorless are more compact with less features.
Both take great pictures.

Which one you need comes down to what you want to take pictures of and size preference.
If you google DSLR vs Mirrorless you will find lots of information comparing the two for buyers such as yourself with hopefully some easy to understand wording.
