|
|
My first step in editing a photo is to crop... I was taught to crop to 5 x 7 and leave the resolution blank. Does anyone know why???
I just recently ran into a problem because the print I am using wants 300 ppi and 10 baseline standard.
So I went in to make the changes (to jpg) and it totally distorted my photo.
Does anyone know why or if when I was done editing should I have been saving to 300 ppi and 10 baseline standard.
This really has me stumped. _________________ Debbie G. |

Hi Debbie,
The reason why your image distorted is because your image most likely did not have 300PPI from the start. PPI operates outside of the document dimensions, so a 8.5x11 300PPI canvas has 300 pixels per inch resulting in a pixel dimension of 2550x3300. On the other hand, a 8.5x11 150PPI canvas has only 150 pixels per inch, hence, the pixel dimensions are only half of the canvas with 300PPI (1275x1650). So if your image was 5x7 with 100 PPI and you changed it to 300PPI, that is 200 pixels of blank space for every inch of that picture. Photoshop tries to compensate for the blank pixels by stretching your picture to fit. |

Well I finally figured it out. In Camera Raw I did not have 300ppi set, I had it at 240. So when I went to change the ppi via: image size, I believe I was suppose to uncheck the resample image. Does that sound right to you?? _________________ Debbie G. |
