i am creating header for a web site and am running into a conflict when using a clipping mask on one layer and a gradient on another.

in short i have two layers.

the top layer is of an image that i have assigned a clipping mask to. i want this image to appear inside the layer below it that happens to be a shape.

the bottom layer is of a shape where i have assigned a gradient from a dark blue to a light blue in the properties.

when the bottom layer has the gradient turned on, the image on top that has the clipping mask disappears. it reappears when i turn the gradient off.

are you not allowed to use clipping masks on one layer and a gradient on another together?

i am sure that this is an elementary question for most, but i cannot figure it out for the life of me. any assistance or insight would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

Is the gradient on an actual layer by itself? Or is it a layer style? I've noticed that some effects will not be applied to styles on lower layers.

If it is a style, just for a test (you can use the history to undo changes), right click on the "fx" of the layer and select "Create Layers". See if that fixes the problem.

Dave

I downloaded this file. I scanned it with Spybot and it came up positive for EBlaster. Anyone know why that would be?

Well vamp, does anyone have access to that PC? EBlaster is monitoring software. It spys on your every move and records it for the program admin to see. However, it couold be another spyware that is being reported wrongly as EBlaster. It happens.

Dave

K. Just read your post again. It's in the file you downloaded. Yeah. Probably some spyware being misreported. I wouldn't open it!

I dealt with a spyware a month ago. Worked with the gurus of one of the online virus/spyware removal sites for 2 weeks to no avail and had to reformat my PC.

Dave

If you somehow get that on your PC it allows REMOTE monitoring. Don't take a chance.

Thanks, Dave. I had already deleted it without unzipping. What I was wondering was, like how did it get there. It must have been on the OP's PC, right? Shouldn't we be advising him to run all his anti-spyware stuff? And has anyone else on here downloaded it by way of trying to help the OP?

I would advise them. Their PC being infected, is the only way for it to get into that zip file. Well, the only feasible way.

Sounds to me like Cardinal has someone watching him.

Might want to look into that Card.

Dave

If you guys are talking about the .zip file on the post, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with it. I downloaded it myself, unzipped it. All it has in it is a .psd file, which I successfully opened. It demonstrates the problem that Cardinal described. I scanned the .zip file itself both with Comodo and with http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus and it came up clean.

So, the file is OK to download. If you got something for eBlaster tied to it, it probably came from something else.

Thanks,

Patrick
