tiling an amimated gif for a background for a website

first off hello, and thanks for your help this is my first post here. i have been "out of the loop" for years now.

here's what i am trying to do. create a small image that has slight animation for a tiling image for the background of a website. i know the format must be gif, and there are plenty of tutorials on youtube for creating that. my question is, what is the ideal size? i would hate to create the image and then find it will not tile properly. do people even use animated gif anymore, or is there a better way to accomplish this?

I have to agree with Auieos, gifs rarely give the look that their author had in mind and in my opinion Flash is a much better animation format for webpages. There are a few alternatives to adobe flash on the market that are a bit more affordable and some are more user friendly though not as feature packed. Download some trials and have a play.

I would steer clear of using any looped animation, especially if you are planning on using it as a background repeated element. The added page weight, plus the distracting nature of animation, makes this a bit of a bad idea.

There was no mention of a looped animation in the original post, just an animated element to the webpage background, which as I said is best achieved using flash rather than a gif.

Yeah I would have serious concerns as well using gifs in html but not with flash. The animations are smooth and can be as simple or as complex as you like and you can embed it in html if you want. Header and menu bar in flash and the rest of the page static html is an extremely popular style nowadays.

Think we can agree, niftyned,FLASH is a better option, although surely a whole tiled page of animation would be detrimental to the viewing experience.

About the looped animation. I doubt that wouldangerousdee181 , was intending to use an animation that played once at the start.

Could be wrong and no offence eitherway.
