I need some help please. Can someone either point to me where I can find instructions to do this or someone help teach me how to do this??/
I am wanting to play with the colors of my logo. I want to change the color of the background and also play with the colors of the lettering and the pen. Thanks.

Select the gold color. There are many methods which will work, I just used the magic wand set to a tolerance of 20. After selecting, copy and paste to a new layer, then on that layer use hue saturation set to colorize and change it to whatever you like.

I would love to get the background a woodgrain instead of the black. How can I do that?? Or can someone do that for me and use the green lettering. I like the green.

It might be better to completely recreate the logo in a size that's workable, but you still have options.

What do you mean by that??? I don't follow. sorry.
And could you explain how you did that if it is not too hard incase I want to try a different color background??? Is this done in layers of some sort.
Oh by the way thanks. Very helpful

I just meant that the logo that I had to work with is fairly small, so it doesn't enlarge well. When you try to get a nice tight selection, it helps to zoom in quite a bit. With a lower resolution image to start with, as you enlarge it the edges become less crisp and more pixelated, which can make work more difficult. I know that a lot of artists, when they create a logo from scratch, will start with a canvas size that is many times larger than the final product will be, unless they are creating a vector image. A lot of images can be downsized and still retain clarity versus upsizing them which almost always reduces quality. You may have a higher resolution image than what is currently posted here.
With the image I posted, I used a very standard wood pattern that I think is stock photoshop. I selected all the text and pulled it out to its own layer, then I selected the oval shape and put it on its own layer as well. I applied a simple pattern overlay to the oval shape, then reapplied your text and graphics and recolored them.
If you would like to work on your logo, I would recommend selecting things like hawkeye mentioned in his post, creating a new layer via copy, and try to separate the logo into as many layers as you can. Save the whole thing as a PSD file so you can always open it back up and work with any of the layers in the future, as you see fit.

Here's a complete reproduction, but it does differ from yours. With the PSD file that I created, every aspect of this logo can be modified from colors, sizes, fonts, gradients, embossing, etc. I didn't mean to imply that your original logo wasn't a good one, It was just fun to play with.
You can see the layers I've used and how I grouped them to keep things organized.

Oh my, oh my. I like yours a whole lot better. How do I get this??? Can I use this to play with??? I love the saw blade and the clock hands better. The wood grain is better. The colored letters look sharper. The whole thing looks more professional. Now I am torn between having a black background and a wood grain background. Any thoughts on this for a logo that will be used for a web site, business cards, and possible shirts and hats. Boy do I appreciate this. I only wish I knew how to use photoshop. Thank you so much for stepping in and helping me.

The file you see on this page is just a 50 percent sized jpeg. You'll have to email me so we can arrange getting the psd file to you because its too large a file to post here. Did you say you already have Photoshop? To work on the PSD file you will need it.
If you have photoshop, just open the psd file and it should look similar to the above screenshot. Click on the layer titled "wood" and you can fill it with black, or any other color or texture you want. You can uncheck the white background layer and get rid of the white square box around your logo as well.

Yes I have PhotoshopCS3. I do not know how to use it and that is why I came here looking for help. It came with the computer.
My email is jttheclockman@aol.com
Again you did a great job with this. It is the best I have seen. Can I ask your opinion though with what I mentioned above. I am looking to put this on a web site, use it on business cards, and also do some shirts and hats for the business if it gets off the ground. What colors would look best or what grouping would look best??? Or maybe you have another idea that poped in your head after working with it abit??? You seem to have a good eye.
Again I want to thank you for helping me.
