Here was my first attempt with making a saber efx. I had used similiar methods for creating the efx as you mentioned in the tutorial. I will try out your method and post it soon.
Here is link to what i did.

To see the clip you may need quick time. If you can't see the clip just let me know.

Gracias JB

(that is my 2 year old son in the clip)

Although the video quality itself isnt very good, its really well done, very realistic, ncie work, did you edit that frame by frame or what?

Pretty nice. You used a light background, which inevitably leads to less-than-satisfactory effects, but it still looks not bad.

Jersey Hacker, I would assume he edited this frame by frame. The process is called rotoscoping--very time consuming, since you have to trace the blade for every single frame, but the final product can look quite nice.

Yes, I took the clip using my old web cam. I lost my firewire to my dv camera. Sorry that is looks so bad. That really isnt what point of the me putting on there. Ive been using photoshop for about 2 days now. I just thought I'd throw it out there.

Gracias JB.

Eek That's pretty incredible for only two days with Photoshop! Nice work! You're a quick learner.

Here are my lastest attempts.

If you look close that Luke's hilt you can see the inside of it. I was thinking of making the sabre blade the width of that...I didnt and I think that I probably should have oh well. Practice makes Perfect. These forums have really helped me out. I'm learning so much. Thanks for all the work and support. Keep up the good work.

Gracias JB

(Thanks for the that "quick learner" comment) Cool

Looks good! That cracked me up, because I've used that source image for lightsaber effects before, too. LOL

Glad to hear these forums are helping you out! Everyone who contributes is appreciated.
