The old file is the one in the center of the work space. When I open the new file and place the photo in it I should be working with the last photo loaded in the old file, is this correct and in this case it would be photo #8.

LoL ... don't worry John, we'll get it eventually.

When you open one of the 2 files are you sure that the other file isn't sitting behind it?

One thing that would make it easier is if you could show me screenshots, but we'll get it.

I had a thought .... look closely at this image in the upper right hand corner

you'll notice that I have the normal 'window' open with the 'close button' 'maximize button' and 'minimize button' ... if you look closer you'll see a second set of the same only smaller just below that.

when you look at your photoshop when it's open and you have a picture open do you see the same thing?

Let me know if you don't understand this and I'll try to explain it better.

Mark

Yes I have that Mark except the one with the ruler is smaller than what you show. Is the other file behind the first one , no because when I click control "N" it opens to the left of the old file. I can see both files at that point. It is after I click control"V" the old file goes away.

Mark I looked at your photo again and my second set of buttons is in the file with the ruler. There is no second set of buttons directly under the ones you show. In other words there is no second set of buttons in the same line as file, edit, image, layer, select and all those buttons.

Mark I figured out what I was doing wrong but is there a way to start the new file over??? I think I put too many pictures in there. I doubled some up.

okay .... along the top of your keyboard to the right of the F-12 button you will see a button that says PrtScn on it ..... this stands for Print Screen.

Open up Photoshop so you can see all of it and then hit that button.

With Photoshop Open .... CTRL+N (new file) CTRL+V (paste) .... this should put a picture of your screen in a new file in photoshop and then go FILE/SAVE AS and name it Johns screenshot and save as a .jpg if you can and e-mail it to me at moondog830@hughes.net

OK Mark Here is what I got. I now have both files with all photos layered. Both files are showing with all the layers showing in the layer palette. I think I am totally up to your last point. Hopefully.

Sent you an email.

At this point we will no longer need the OLD file ... we will be working with the NEW file from here on out.

Make sure that you have saved the NEW file for the next phase which unfortunately will have to wait until tomorrow ... before church if I wake up early enough or after church otherwise
