Hello all my name is John. I just got a new computer set up and it had photoshopCS3 installed on it. I am running windows XP64professional. I am a new wood turner and started turning wooden pens. What I would like to do is display them on variuos forums but what I want to do is have them spin or rotate 360 degrees so that all sides are seen.
What I do know is I need to take various photos, do not know how many, of the pen as it stands straight up on a turntable. I eventually will have a photo tent set up with my camera on a tripod. So the background and everything stays the same throught the shooting.
What I do not know is how to use Photoshop to do what I want it to do. I was hoping someone could walk me through the process but keeping in mind I am not familar with the program. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. _________________ John T. |

okay, yes, you can do this using the animation features in photoshop.
Step1: take all your pictures and save them to your drive.
Step2: Open Photoshop and create a file the size that you need it. (keep in mind WHERE you want to use these files and that some of the websites don't allow for High Resolution as they take up too much space).
Step3: Open all your pictures (of pen) in Photoshop. From Photoshop go to FILE/OPEN, then navigate to where ALL your photos are stored and highlight them all and then click the OPEN button.
You will now have all your pictures open as well as the 'template' picture you initially created. minimize all your pictures except the first one and
then ...
Step4: Select All (CTRL+A)
Step5: Copy (CTRL+C)
Step6: Go to the file first file you created for your animation and Paste (CTRL+V) This automatically creates a layer.
Go to your next pen picture and repeat steps 1 - 6 until all your pen pictures are in the same file and each on a seperate layer.
Once you've got this taken care of, let me know and we'll continue. Let me know if there are any problems
Sorry for the post about using a different program, I continue in my old age to forget easy stuff.

OK Mark you have elected to help me that is good. First let me say I do not have my litght tent yet or my turntable set up but what I am going to do tomorrow or Tues is make a mock up and will take photos. I guess I will take about 6 and see how it looks. I will get it to the stage that you mentioned hopefully and get back to you. Thanks for helping me out. You do not know how many people I asked already. _________________ John T. |

Mark
I am back and have my photos on my hard drive but I do not know how to get them to photoshop. I click on the file button and click on browse and find my first photo. Open it and it goes in the animation window. I click on make next layer and repeat and find my next photo. When I click to open it opens and the first photo goes away and this one replaces it. So I do not know how to get all my photos into photoshop and in the animation window. You will have your work cut out for you on this one. I was never accused of being the sharpest knife in the drawer. How do you create a file in photoshop?? _________________ John T. |

John,
Go back to my steps above and follow them and see if that works for you. (I revised the steps to make sure I got this right for you).
Let me know if you still have problems .... no worries.

OK Mark I was able to now get the photos into Photoshop. They are all lined up at the bottom of the page. In other words I got to step 3. Where am I pasting these photos??? Where are the layers listed??
Here is what I see when I open photoshop. There is a small retangle window that says animation frames to the left. To the right there is a window that says layers, channels and paths. Layers is highlighted and there is my first picture in a box that says background. There is also a small picture in the animation window. If I open the next photo in my sequesnce of photos the pictures in the animation window and the one that says background all change to the new picture and the first one is gone. Hope this helps you to figure out what I am doing wrong. _________________ John T. |

Okay ... so what size 'template' are you going to put the pictures in to create your animation? If these are for webpages, I would suggest 300x300 or thereabouts.
once you have that 'template' created ..... you take the first picture and go to step 4:
the layers will begin to show up as you copy and paste each picture INTO the 'template'
you should have a 'layers' pallet ... most likely to the right side. If not, go to WINDOW along the top tools and make sure LAYER is checked. _________________ moondog
